Meditations on the Anthropocene – Randall Harlow, Guest Organist

As part of his organ and church music fall residency, guest organist Randall Harlow presents “Meditations on the Anthropocene,” music for organ and electronics. For the first time in 4.5 billion years, the actions of a single species have irrevocably transformed the planet’s soil, water, air and climate—not locally, but globally, not over millions of years, but decades. This era demands a reckoning from humanity. This program situates acoustic and electronic sound, human and non-human agency as metaphor for the fraught dichotomy of humanity-versus-nature driving the social and political dynamics that led us to this situation.
