In 2024-25, the Learning and Assessment Board (LAB) will assess the effectiveness of these three Core Curriculum requirements. When each of these courses was proposed, specific assignments were identified in the course proposal that would fulfill the Student Learning Outcomes associated with the requirement. Near the end of the Fall 2024 semester, LAB will ask faculty to submit copies of students’ finished work on these assignments for the purpose of Core Curriculum assessment. We call these finished products “artifacts.” This assessment process is entirely separate from the grading faculty will do in the course.
As you plan your course, please review the course proposal and determine how you will collect these artifacts and share them with LAB. If the artifact is a paper, this collection process will be fairly simple; however, some types of assignments, such as speeches or performances, require more advance planning to capture. If you would like some help as you make these plans. These two CELT workshops offered this summer are designed to help faculty with planning and assessment for these courses. Each workshop will be led by Mike Garcia and LAB and will be offered in a hybrid format – via Zoom and in person in MAIN 112.
