Class of 1986 Summer 2016 Reunion Letter

“Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to get through this thing called life.”

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few weeks, you probably heard that Prince passed away.  A number of you, in fact, texted me the day he died with fond memories of road-tripping from Decorah to Rochester to see Purple Rain, dancing to Prince at J.J.’s, and hearing his music blaring through the halls of Brandt.  I happen to live in Chanhassen, Minnesota – the suburb where Paisley Park is and where Prince lived – which not surprisingly has become Ground Zero for Prince memorials of late.  It is somewhat surprising, though, that his passing was felt so deeply all over the world.  I was trying to wrap my brain around why his death impacted so many people, and then someone I know said it best: “I feel like I lost a piece of my youth.”
