Rebecca Traister to give Farwell Distinguished Lecture, “Good and Mad: The Revolutionary Power of Women’s Anger”

Nationally recognized journalist to speak to the political significance of female fury on Oct. 10

She's been called "the most brilliant voice on feminism in this country" by Ann Lamott. Rebecca Traister, writer for the New York Magazine and contributing editor at Elle, will give the 2019 Farwell Distinguished Lecture at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life.

            Sponsored by the Farwell endowment, this lecture is open to the public with no charge for admission.

            Traister's latest book, "Good and Mad," is the cornerstone of her lecture during which she will speak to the transformative power of female anger and its ability to transcend into a political movement. Traister will comment on the nature and targets of women's anger, the role it plays in the political landscape and how it is received and opposed by the society around us. A book signing will follow the lecture.

            A National Magazine Award finalist, Traister has written about women's contribution in politics, media and entertainment from a feminist perspective. She has contributed to formats including the New Republic, Salon, The Nation, New York Observer, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Glamour, Vogue and Marie Claire. She is a winner of the 2016 Hillman Prize for Analysis and Opinion Journalism. Along with her extensive resume of journalistic accomplishments, Traister is also the author of "All The Single Ladies" and the award-winning "Big Girls Don't Cry."
