Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders to host campaign event at Luther College
Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders will host a town hall campaign event at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, in the North Gymnasium in Regents Center on the Luther College campus. The event is open to the public. Tickets are not required, but an RSVP is encouraged.
The event is part of his two-day "Bernie Beats Trump" tour on Monday and Tuesday. The senator is visiting half a dozen counties that flipped for President Donald Trump in 2016 after favoring President Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012. According to the Sanders campaign, on the tour Sanders will highlight his progressive health care and economic agendas.
This is Sanders' second visit to Luther College. He hosted a campaign event in Regents Center during his 2016 presidential campaign.
Ahead of his visit to Luther, the senator is spending the weekend in Des Moines, where he will announce policy plans to eliminate medical debt and end health care bankruptcies.
Bernie Sanders is a U.S. senator from Vermont. He is currently serving his third term in the senate after winning re-election in 2018. Prior to that appointment, Sanders was the mayor of Burlington, Vermont.
