The National Collegiate Athletic Association announced that Luther College senior Paul Blackburn is one of 40 students selected nationwide for the NCAA III Student Immersion Program.

As technology develops, so too does the use of digital medicine and personalizing care. Luther College alumnus Steve Demuth, chief technology officer and head of the office of IT strategy and architecture at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, will present “Digital Medicine: Why Doctors and Computer Scientists Increasingly Need Each Other,” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, in the Franklin W. Olin Room 102 on the Luther campus.

Luther College seniors Annalise Johnson and Kristen Carlson were selected to present research at the 2017 Iowa Communication Association Conference held Sept. 29-30 at Central College in Pella, Iowa.

Teaching the Spanish language to students in Spain this summer, Luther senior Lynnette Kennedy of Washington, Iowa, interned at Colegio Pinosierra in Madrid. Kennedy, daughter of Cynthia and Jim Kennedy, graduated in 2014 from Washington High School. She plans to graduate from Luther in spring 2018 with a Spanish major.

Luther alumnus Peter Espinosa will join Luther College’s Board of Regents the college’s president Paula Carlson announced Wednesday.

Belal Krayem, Luther college senior, majoring in accounting and data science, served as an internal audit intern for the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines Iowa during summer 2017. Krayem made such an impression that he was offered a fall internship with the FHLB Operational Risk department.

Kole Ruud, Luther senior, worked for the Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Iowa and South Dakota as a project manager intern. Establishing a communication plan for the Sales, Training, Communication, and Membership and Enrollment groups, Ruud and his team were able to implement a product his team created for future agents to use.

Liam Fraser organized a clean energy tour around Decorah and promoted clean energy with the help of local leaders, during his summer internship with Iowa Interfaith Power and Light in Decorah, Iowa.

Following the footsteps of a public health nurse, Luther sophomore Charles Ian Ces of Tabaco City, Philippines, spent four weeks of his summer as an intern at the Tabaco City Health Unit. Ces, son of Ana and Jimuel Ces, is a 2014 graduate of the Engineering Science Education Program at Tabaco National High School and also received International Baccalaureate Program Bilingual Diploma from United World College of the Atlantic in Wales, United Kingdom in 2016.

Featuring a sequential series of photo collages with text created by Luther College alumna Sarah Frydenlund, “Rush In,” is on display through Dec. 15 in Preus Library on the Luther campus. The exhibit is open to the public with no charge for admission.
