Luther senior Mathistad to present saxophone recital

Luther College senior Peter Mathistad will present a saxophone recital at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, in the Noble-Recital Hall of the Jenson Noble Hall of Music on the Luther campus.

Mathistad, son of Todd and Janet Mathistad of Minot, North Dakota, is a 2015 graduate of Minot High School. He is currently majoring in music at Luther.

Mathistad studies the saxophone with Lynne Hart, Luther adjunct faculty in music.

Mathistad will be performing "Tricotism" by Oscar Pettiford, "Night and Day" by Cole Porter, "Cherokee" by Ray Noble and "On the Sunny Side of the Street" by Jimmy McHugh and Dorothy Fields. along with several original compositions.

Luther is home to one of the largest collegiate music programs in the nation with five choirs, three bands, three orchestras, two jazz bands and more than 800 student musicians. Luther students participate in large ensembles, faculty-coached chamber groups, private lessons and master classes. More than 275 music majors study music theory, ear training, history, education, composition, jazz, church music and performance.
