Golden Gate Bridge suicide survivor shares his story of hope, healing and recovery
At 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, Kevin Hines will present "#BeHereTomorrow" in the Main Gym of Regents Center at Luther College. It is open to the public with no charge for admission. Hines is an award-winning global speaker, best-selling author, documentary filmmaker and suicide prevention and mental health advocate who has reached millions with his story of an unlikely survival and his will to live.
Hines is part of the 1% of people who survive a fall from the Golden Gate Bridge. Since his suicide attempt in 2000, Hines has devoted his time to traveling the world to share his story of hope, healing and recovery while teaching people of all ages the art of wellness and the ability to survive pain with true resilience. His story has touched and inspired thousands of people worldwide.
One woman who has heard Hines speak says, "Kevin is an excellent public speaker who is able to immediately connect with audiences of youth and adults. Kevin is honest, courageous and not shy to challenge members of the audience to become allies of people living with mental illness. He has an uncanny ability to speak both to people who profoundly understand mental illness (because they are living with it or love someone who does) and to people who know very little about mental illness. I believe, with my whole heart, that Kevin's message saves lives."
Another one of Hines' audience members said, "Seeing Kevin Hines was the best thing I have ever attended."
Hines will be available for a book signing following the lecture. This event is sponsored by Luther College Counseling Service, the Center for Ethics and Public Engagement and Active Minds.
