Buena Vista won the Iowa Conference three-game series after defeating Luther this afternoon in Decorah by a final of 3-1. The Beavers won game one 7-3 in 10 innings and the Norse won game two 5-2. Both of these games were played on Friday afternoon. Today's game was originally scheduled to be played Saturday, but the forecast of rain and snow forced the final game to be postponed until today.
The Luther bats were held in check this afternoon. The Norse managed just two hits, a double by Jake Vogt to lead-off the fifth, and a single in the ninth by Bryce Hingst. Vogt scored in the fifth when Buena Vista catcher Nick Henrichs attempted to throw out Vogt while stealing third. Henrichs threw the ball to left field and Vogt scored on the error.
All three runs for the Beavers came in the fourth when Porter Sartor's fly ball to left field was ruled a home run, clearing the temporary fence that was installed for the series due to the muddy conditions of the warning track.
Cameron Reed was credited with the loss. Reed pitched six innings, allowed three runs on eight hits, did not issue a walk and struck out two.
The loss drops Luther's Iowa Conference record to 1-2,10-3 overall. Buena Vista improved to 2-1 in league play, 6-10 overall.
Luther returns to action on Tuesday, March 27 when it will host St. Mary's University (MN) for a double header (2x7) that is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
