Luther's three-match win streak was snapped in the final match of the Whit Classic in Spokane, Wash., as the Norse were defeated by Whittier College 3-1. Set scores were 23-25, 25-21, 18-25 and 31-34.
Hannah Theisen tallied 12 kills, followed by Hannah Wilson and Natalee Johnson with seven each. Lindsey Ryan dished out 31 assists. Carissa Sternhagen led the defensive efforts with 14 digs, followed by Johnson and Jordyn Dudek with 11 each. At the net the Norse tallied 17 total team blocks. Wilson was credited with two block solos and six assists, while Sophia Brown tallied one block solo and seven assists. Ryan and McKinzy Lohberger were credited with six and five assisted blocks respectively.
Luther finished in a three-way tie with Whitworth and Whittier with a record of 3-1 during the Whit Classic. Whitworth was declared the tournament champion on a tie breaker.
Brown and Ryan were named to the eight-player all-tournament team.
The Norse return home with an overall record of 4-4. They will begin Iowa Conference action at home on Wednesday, Sept. 12 when they will host Coe College at 7:30 p.m. This match will be video streamed.
