Liberal Arts Championships - Recap

Luther hosted the Liberal Arts Championships for the first time in school history. This is the 41st year that the men have competed for a team title at this event dating back to 1978.

The Norse finished the four-day meet in sixth place with a point total of (279). Franklin College won the team title with (811), followed by Nebraska Wesleyan University (563.5) and Illinois Tech (534).

Day 1 Recap (Wednesday): There was only one swimming event tonight, the 800 freestyle relay. The Luther foursome of Matt Staver, Peder Smith, Soren Gloege Torp and Hunter Barnard placed fourth clocked at 7:11.08.

Trevor Kao posted a point total of 274.95 points in one-meter diving and placed fifth.

Day 2 Recap (Thursday): Luther's 200 freestyle relay and 400 medley relays advanced to today's finals, as did Peder Smith and Matt Staver in the 500 freestyle.

The 200 freestyle relay foursome of Ian Christopherson, Soren Gloege Torp, Mitch Petellin and Trevor Kao placed 6th with a time of 1:28.03.

The 400 medley relay of Zach Martin, Landon Albro, Staver and Christopherson also placed sixth clocked at 3:35.76.

Staver placed seventh in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:51.76, while Smith placed eighth with a mark of 4:54.19.

Day 3 Recap (Friday): The 200 medley relay team of Martin, Albro, Staver and Kao wrapped up today's action with a sixth place finish in the A-Finals clocked at 1:38.86.

Individuals who advanced to the A-Finals included Staver and Smith in the 400 IM, Albro in the 100 breaststroke and Martin in the 100 backstroke. Smith (4:11.77) and Staver (4:19.45) placed fourth and fifth respectively in the 400 IM. Albro placed eighth (1:02.11) in the 100 breaststroke and Martin placed seventh (54.59) in the 100 backstroke.

Trevor Kao placed fourth in the three-meter (11 dives) competition today posting a point total of 307.85.

The final day of competition will begin tomorrow with the preliminary rounds beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Day 4 Recap (Saturday): Zach Martin and Peder Smith advanced to the A-Finals in the 200 backstroke. Martin placed seventh (1:58.45) and Smith was eighth (1:58.96). Matt Staver placed sixth in the 200 fly (1:57.97) and Ian Christopherson was seventh in the 100 freestyle (47.94). The 400 freestyle relay advanced to the A-Finals but was disqualified.
