Luther remained unbeaten in Iowa Conference play defeating Coe College this afternoon in Decorah 6-3.
The Norse jumped out to a 3-0 lead sweeping doubles. Claire Christian and Jackie Cychosz defeated Lakyn Boltz and Lauren French (8-4) at No. 1. Anna Pearson and Britta Pressler posted an (8-2) victory over Haley Resnick and Eliza Sunderman at No. 2. Kelsey Kruse and Devon Bourget won (8-1) at No. 3 over Stephanie Bush and Ella White.
In singles, French defeated Pearson in straight sets (6-0, 6-3) to pull the Kohawks to 3-1. Christian at No. 3, moved Luther to within a win away from capturing the team victory, defeating Sunderman in straight sets (6-2, 6-4). Coe's Resnick kept the Kohawks alive defeating Cychosz (6-1, 6-3) at No. 1. Kruse at No. 6, secured the Norse victory, defeating White (6-0, 7-6(7-3)). Minutes later, Pressler tacked on the sixth team point, defeating Boltz (6-1, 7-5). At No. 5, Bourget dropped a hard fought match (5-7, 6-1, 2-10) to Bush that ended the match.
The win gives Luther an Iowa Conference record of 4-0, 4-1 overall. Coe fell to 2-1 in league play, 3-3 overall.
Next weekend, Luther travels to Gustavus Adolphus College for the Midwest ITA Championships. The three-day tournament will take place Sept. 22-24.
