It was the American Rivers Conference opener this afternoon and Luther handed Central a 2-0 defeat. The victory gives the Norse an overall record of 3-4-1, while Central fell to 5-4-1.
Hailey Sanchez scored what proved to be the game winner at 23:45 of the first half. Sanchez scored on a penalty kick following a Central foul in the box. Her goal was her fourth of the year.
In the second frame, Isabel Iverson scored unassisted, following a keeper mistake with the ball at 71:22. When the keeper misplayed the ball, Iverson knocked it past the keeper and tapped it into the lower left corner of the net. This was her first goal of the season.
Kennedy Bergren went the distance in front of the nets and recorded her second shutout.
Luther will wrap up its non-conference schedule at home on Tuesday, Oct. 1. The Norse will host the Blugolds of UW-Eau Claire at 7:00 p.m.
