Luther faced No. 15 Washington University-St. Louis in the opening game of the 2017 Paul F. Knueppel Classic that is being hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran College. The Bears defeated the Norse by a final of 68-45.
Wash U held a four-point advantage at halftime (27-23) and outscored the Norse 42-22 in the final 20 minutes of play. Luther won the battle of the boards 44-40, but turned the basketball over 19 times that led to 15 points for the Bears.
Claire Marburger posted her first double-double of the year. Marburger tallied 20 points and collected a game high 11 rebounds. Anna Edel chipped in a career high nine points and Madilyn Heinke added six.
Wash U had four players reach double digits led by Madeline Homoly with 20. Natalie Orr had a double-double for the Bears thanks to 10 points and 10 rebounds.
