The University of Dubuque defeated Luther 83-66 tonight in the Regents Center. The Spartans dropped in 14 three-point baskets that proved to be the difference in the ball game.
Dubuque held a one-point advantage at halftime (37-36) and proceeded to put together a 26-8 run in the first 10 minutes of the second half and led 63-44. The Norse battled back and pulled to within 10 (70-60) with 3:56 remaining, but that was as close as they would get the rest of the way.
Jared Nicolaisen, who was 6-of-12 from the field, led the Norse with 18 points. McCoy Matthias also tallied double digits producing 14 points off the bench. James Kappus with nine and Ray Whitlock with eight completed the top four scorers.
Dubuque was led by Jamaree Atwater who scored a game high 26. TJ Lake was next with 18 and Michael Williams added 12.
The loss gives Luther an Iowa Conference mark of 0-7, 4-11 overall. Dubuque is now 1-6, 9-7.
Luther travels to Buena Vista University on Wednesday, Jan. 17. Start time in Storm Lake is 8:00 p.m.
