Soul of Soil – A Tapestry of Origin and Return

May 2 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Soul of Soil is an immersive dance and field experiment elevating soil as the life source, the world’s largest water purifier, and agent for climate reform. For millions of years, the world beneath has evolved to model a collaborative, interactive, and interdependent community naturally. Microorganisms, fungi, worms, and plant roots intersect in a journey of growth, decay, and renewal. Today, the state of the world’s soil is dire, especially in areas that are responsible for a majority of agricultural output. We investigate this problem as Soul of Soil examines the regenerative microbial tapestry through layers of art and science to showcase the reciprocal relationship of how the life below makes the life above possible.

By probing possible solutions, practices, and people positioned to restore and protect, we elevate the potential to regenerate soil and human communities.

Artistic Direction by Jane Hawley (Dance) in collaboration with Soil Research Director, Jodi Enos-Berlage (Biology), produced in collaboration with Jeff Dintaman (Theatre Design) and students and faculty/staff of the Visual & Performing Arts department.

Performances on May 2, 3, and 4 at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets available at the Luther Box Office or at tickets.luther.edu.
