TED JACKSON / THE TIMES-PICAYUNE Keith Plessy, right and Phoebe Ferguson
The U.S. Supreme Court case Plessy v. Ferguson is a landmark decision in the history of American law and structures of racism. Luther College is honored to welcome Phoebe Ferguson and Keith Plessy, descendants of the people at the center of that historical case, for a conversation with President Jenifer K. Ward. Plessy and Ferguson model the productive work of finding common cause. Together on stage, they will explore their approaches to using knowledge of, and accounting for, the past in order to fuel and forge a more just future. The conversation will likely range from the story of how they came together in common cause to their philosophies and practices of activism and their perspectives on how the U.S. Supreme Court shapes us.
