Regents Center Renovation
Gerdin Fieldhouse for Athletics and Wellness
Projected Cost: $24 million
Progress: $15 million committed (as of 8/31/2024)
At Luther College, students are at the heart of all we do. Our campus becomes their home for four years. When we say “Welcome to the Valley,” we are committed to providing a learning environment where we don’t just exercise our minds in the classrooms and laboratories, we exercise our bodies as part of overall wellness and a strong tradition of NCAA Division III athletic competition. This is true for all who enroll at Luther, especially our student-athletes.
For many students, athletics is part of their Luther story. They train, practice, and compete, while learning teamwork, self-discipline, and leadership along the way. The proposed renovation of Luther’s athletics facilities is an investment in all students—current and future Norse.
In November 2023, Luther announced a $10 million commitment—the largest individual gift in our history—toward renovation of the Regents Center. Thanks to this extraordinarily generous gift from Mike ’92 and Nicole Gerdin and the Gerdin Charitable Foundation, this facility will soon be renamed the Gerdin Fieldhouse for Athletics and Wellness. Your support will ensure this project moves forward quickly so the next generation of Norse student-athletes and Luther undergraduates have top-tier spaces that better reflect the quality of our institution and the competitive edge of our teams.
Renovation Goals
- Modernize athletic facilities on par with American Rivers Conference (ARC) and DIII peers to appeal to prospective Norse and better reflect the outstanding quality of Luther’s academic program and athletic tradition
- Create more gathering spaces for studying, meeting, and socializing
- Revitalize our recreational spaces and locker rooms for use by all students and the campus and
Decorah communities as an investment in physical health and wellness
College athletics have changed dramatically since the original Regents Center was constructed in 1963. Modernized spaces will energize our sports and recreation programs and propel them to the next level of competition and wellness. As Mike Gerdin noted, “It’s time for Luther.” Now is our opportunity to accelerate this renovation, and you can help make it happen!
