Luther College Organ Studio

The Rost Memorial Organ in the Center for Faith and Life

Anyone is welcome in the Luther College organ studio, whether you choose to major in the instrument, you want to learn a little bit about it, or you just want to make yourself more marketable as a church musician. Our faculty will meet you where you are, whether you want to dive deeply into the organ repertoire or you want to learn how to play hymns for church. Keyboardists of any level may enroll for organ lessons.

The studio is active in the Luther College and extended community. We perform outreach recitals in the Upper Midwest area, and take short studio trips to visit instruments in Decorah and surrounding area to get more experience with different organs. Organists have the option to gain more experience performing in bi-weekly chapel services on campus. These services are streamed, making it easy for your friends and family to tune in.

In addition to your weekly lessons, the studio meets for studio class every Tuesday. At the end of every semester, the studio participates in a group recital with the harpsichordists on campus. Organ majors are required to play recitals; all others may petition the faculty to do so. All organists, regardless of major, are invited to participate in these events and travels.

Luther College students have access to the campus’ six organs as well as occasional access to community instruments.
