Class of 1979 Spring 2014 Letter

Spring 2014

Greetings Classmates!

In early March, I had just returned from a two-day visit to the Luther College campus feeling fully energized to write this letter. It was a great weekend to be on campus, with sub-zero temperatures and a constant snow fall.  While the snow was pretty, it was not needed, as the campus had plenty already. While at Luther, I had time to wander around campus and talk to students in regards to hometown, major, and, in some cases, what brought them to Luther. Many similar answers, and yet many unique stories as well. Upon returning from campus, I heard a comment on TV that got me thinking. The comment was "who would be on your Mount Rushmore?" As I thought about that comment as it pertains to my Luther experience or connection, my mind raced in many directions. Who would be on the Mount Rushmore of Luther College? A faculty member? A coach? Someone from the music department? Possibly your spouse, if you met them at Luther? In any case, the possibilities are numerous...or maybe not. Maybe we would all come up with similar names. I encourage you to give it some thought. This fall when the Class of 1979 gathers for our 35th class reunion, I will bring this up and see where we can go with it. You have an assignment for homecoming! Homecoming is scheduled for October 10-12, 2014. I hope you are able to clear your schedule to attend. More info about Homecoming will be sent out at a later date, but work on clearing your schedule so you can make the pilgrimage to Decorah.
