Class of 1951 Spring 2014 Letter

Paula J. Carlson, vice president for mission at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., has been elected the 10th president of Luther College. A scholar of medieval literature and modern American literature, Carlson was formerly vice president and liaison to the St. Olaf Board of Regents and, at the University of Dubuque in Iowa, director of the Wendt Center for Character Education and associate dean for academic affairs. Carlson's appointment at Luther is effective July 1, 2014.

Dear Classmates, Schoolmates, and Friends,

It’s 2014, the year that most of us turn 85! We were born in 1929, graduated from high school in 1947 and Luther College in 1951. We have lived through economic depressions and periods of economic expansion. At the end of WWII we were 16 and felt like grown-ups. Seventy years later, we find ourselves in a world with problems galore. Looking back on our years at Luther College we think of them as some of the best years of our lives. So let’s say a big “THANK YOU” to our alma mater!
