Counseling Service

Picture of people sitting outsideLuther College Counseling Service (LCCS) promotes the health and wellbeing of all Luther students. College is an exciting time, involving many changes, challenges, and decisions to make. If you are experiencing persistent difficulties which interfere with your functioning, we encourage you to talk with us about what is happening. We want to be a part of equipping you to learn well, to develop healthy relationships, and to serve your communities.

We are committed to providing a safe, welcoming, and affirming environment for all persons that seek our services.

Individual Counseling

Luther College Counseling Service provides confidential, short-term, solution-focused therapy to Luther College students on campus. We are pleased that Luther supports a professional therapy service, staffed by trained and licensed or pre-licensed therapists. We see students by appointment. Appointments can be made by emailing counseling@luther.edu, calling 563-387-1375, or by walking in during business hours.

Services are provided at no additional cost to students, and are available as scheduling allows during times when classes are in session. Students may be seen for a one-time consultation appointment, for an assessment and referral to another provider, or for on-going brief therapy. We also offer consultation appointments to any member of the Luther community who has serious concerns about the emotional well-being of a Luther student.

Groups

We offer group psychoeducation and group therapy dealing with anxiety, resilience, coping skills, and other topics as we see a need or as requested by students. Please let us know what type of content you are looking for, and we will do our best to respond to it.

TELUS Health App

Luther College has contracted with a program called TELUS Health as an extended service of Luther’s Counseling Services. This service provides Luther students increased access, availability, and individualized choice in receiving mental health supports at no additional cost to the student. It is available 24/7, from anywhere on the globe, so it is of particular benefit to students studying off-campus, who may be out of the country or in a different time zone, or for a student experiencing distress outside of regular business hours.
