Presidential candidate John Delaney to host campaign event at Luther College

Democratic presidential hopeful John Delaney will host a campaign event at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, in the Center for Faith and Life Recital Hall on the Luther College campus. While Delaney's primary focus of this stop is talking with students, the event is open to the public. Tickets are not required.

The event is part of Delaney's 40-stop tour of Iowa ahead of the first-in-the-nation caucuses. Delaney is calling it his "Send A Message Tour" that's focused on small, rural towns. He also wants Iowans to know he's spent the most time in the state, touring all 99 counties in 2018. The tour will highlight Delaney's plan to create economic opportunities for people in small towns.

A dinner will follow at 5 p.m. at Old Armory BBQ in Decorah. The meal is free of charge and open to the public.

Delaney is an entrepreneur and was a US Representative for Maryland from 2013 to 2019. He was the first Democrat to announce his run for the presidency in 2020. Delaney supports universal health coverage and equality-related legislation.

The Iowa Democratic caucus will be held on Feb. 3, 2020. Luther is hosting two caucus events that night, one in the CFL Main Hall and another in the North Gymnasium in Regents Center. The meetings begin promptly at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m.
