Giving a multimedia introduction to Jimmy Buffett’s extensive career, Luther College Professor Emeritus of History Marv Slind will present the lecture, “Growing Older Without Growing Up: The ‘Parrothead’ Life” at Luther’s Emeriti Colloquium, at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 14, in the Mott Room of the Dahl Centennial Union. The lecture is open to the public with no charge for admission.

A joyful performer and consummate drummer, Keith Hall will present a guest jazz artist recital alongside Luther College faculty at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, March 7, in the Recital Hall of the Center for Faith and Life on the Luther campus. The performance is open to the public with no charge of admission. The performance titled “Art Blakey at 100: A Musical Celebration of Blakey and the Jazz Messengers,” includes music by Benny Golson, Freddie Hubbard, Wayne Shorter, Bobby Timmons and other distinguished alumni of Blakey’s Jazz Messengers.

Beginning with a digital humanities initiative focused on changing racial and economic demographics, The Welcome Project helps participants look at factors contributing to the de-urbanizing of communities in post-industrial America. Luther College is hosting The Art of the Story exhibit in the Wigley Fleming gallery in the Center for the Arts on the Luther College campus. This exhibit is available to the public from Feb. 7 to March 14 with no charge for admission.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that from 2016 to 2026, employment in the health education sector will grow 16 percent and healthcare occupations generally will grow 18 percent – both much faster than the national average for all occupations. With this growth in mind, the Luther College Board of Regents unanimously approved multiple changes to the college’s Health and Physical Education Department, including renaming the department to Health Promotion and Exercise Science to better reflect changes to the program.
