Oneota Film Festival monthly movie set for Nov. 2

In conjunction with the Oneota Film Festival, a screening of the documentary “Happening: A Clean Energy Revolution,” will be shown at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at the Lingonberry, 218 Water Street, Decorah, Iowa.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Following the film is a question and answer session with Winneshiek Energy District staff. Sponsored by WED and the Oneota Film Festival, the film is open to members of either organization. Guests can also become a member of either organization at the event.

The film screening is a part of a kickoff to the 10th annual Oneota Film Festival, which is co-sponsored by Luther College. OFF is set for Thursday through Saturday, March 7-9, 2019, on the Luther campus and in downtown Decorah. Directed by James Redford and featuring Mark Ruffalo, the film shows the beginning of the clean energy era. In an effort to create stronger and healthier communities, Redford shows how entrepreneurs in various communities worked to pioneer clean energy solutions. The film also shows how clean energy works and explores the topics of human resilience, social justice and hope for survival.

Local filmmakers and those from around the world can submit their films for judging and possible inclusion in OFF at filmfreeway.com/OneotaFilmFestival. Submissions will be judged by an international jury of filmmakers, educators and professionals. Relevant films must meet the OFF mission: “We focus on the issues of our time, including environmental, social justice, arts, adventure, fitness, eco-travel, food/agriculture and creativity as well as films that address the human condition. We especially look for films oriented to local issues or local impact.”

The Oneota Film Festival was initiated at Luther College in 2008 by Luther alumni Walter Ordway, class of 1969, and Kyrl Henderson, class of 1971. The festival has grown from highlighting documentary films with a sustainability theme to now including films from students and professionals with topics ranging from horror to romantic comedy to animations.
