Nordic Choir to perform in the Midwest and Southeast Jan. 24-Feb. 10

The Luther College Nordic Choir, one of the premier collegiate choral ensembles in the United States, is hitting the road for a five-state winter tour starting on Jan. 24.

For more than 75 years, the Luther College Nordic Choir has been at the forefront of collegiate choral music in the country. Today, the choir continues to celebrate its Norwegian heritage while embracing music from around the world.

Under the direction of Andrew Last, associate professor of music and director of choral activities, the program features a varied repertoire that includes Andrew Steffen’s “Home,” Gerald Kemner’s “Now, Shout” and Dolly Parton’s “Light of a Clear Blue Morning.” The concert will conclude with the traditional Nordic Choir closing piece, “O Lord God” by Pavel Chesnokov, with an invitation to alumni of the choir to join the ensemble on stage.

“Nordic Choir has an exciting program to share with audiences from Iowa City to Orlando,” Last said. “From J.S. Bach to Fred Rogers, our hope is to engage with friends and family while generating some new fans for Luther College along the way.”

The tour kicks off at First Lutheran Church in Duluth, Minn., on Jan. 24. From there, the choir travels to Lakeville, Minn., for a Jan. 25 performance at St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Then, while the rest of campus enjoys January Term break (Jan. 29-Feb. 3), Nordic Choir will enchant audiences with performances in the following locations:

• Iowa City, Iowa
• Cape Girardeau, Mo.
• Nashville, Tenn.
• Atlanta, Ga.
• Savannah, Ga.
• Winter Park, Fla.
• Jacksonville Beach, Fla.
• Manchester, Mo.

The choir will return to Decorah for a homecoming concert at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 10 at the Center for Faith and Life Main Hall.
