New York Times bestselling author Dr. Eddie Glaude Jr. to deliver lecture at Luther College on Nov. 12

Dr. Eddie Glaude Jr., the New York Times bestselling author of “Begin Again: James Baldwin’s America and Its Urgent Lessons for Our Own,” will highlight concepts from his recent book, “America, U.S.A: How Race Shadows the Nation’s Anniversaries,” at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12, in the Noble Recital Hall at Jenson-Noble Hall of Music on Luther College’s campus. The lecture is free and open to the public.

“As one of the nation’s most prominent scholars, Dr. Glaude is an author, political commentator, public intellectual, and passionate educator who examines the complex dynamics of the American experience,” said Guy Nave, professor of religion at Luther College. “During the lecture, Glaude will challenge us to examine the stories America tells about itself and the truths too often left untold. We hope community members will join us at Luther College for this important lecture and conversation.”

Following the lecture, Glaude plans to sign books in the lobby. The Book Shop at Luther College currently has “America, U.S.A.” in stock, and area residents are encouraged to buy their copies on campus. Copies will be available for purchase at the event.

A highly accomplished and respected scholar of religion, Glaude is a former president of the American Academy of Religion. He is the James S. McDonnell Distinguished University Professor of African American Studies at Princeton University, a program he helped shape as a doctoral candidate in religion at Princeton. He served as the department’s inaugural chair for more than 14 years. Glaude is also on the Morehouse College Board of Trustees.

Glaude frequently appears in the media as a commentator on various news shows and as a TIME magazine columnist. He also appears regularly on “Meet the Press” on Sundays. Combining a scholar’s knowledge of history, a political commentator’s take on the latest events, and an activist’s passion for social justice, Glaude challenges all of us to examine our collective American conscience.

His lecture at Luther College is supported by funding from the Oen Fellowship and the Wilford A. Johnson Chair in Biblical Studies.
