The Phantom of the Opera (1925) – Silent Film with Improvised Organ Score

Guest organist Dr. Matthew Gender returns to Luther College to accompany a showing of the 1925 silent film The Phantom of the Opera, starring Lon Chaney. The score for the classic film will be improvised on the Center for Faith and Life’s 49-stop Sipe pipe organ. Dr. Gender is the Director of Worship Arts at Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester, Minnesota and has received prizes in the National Competition for Organ Improvisation (2016) and the University of Michigan Organ Improvisation Competition (2017). The program is free and open to the public, and costumes are welcomed and encouraged!
