This presentation follows a personal and global journey from Timor-Leste to the United Kingdom, exploring how one of the world’s youngest nations connects to one of Europe’s most defining political moments — Brexit. Through stories, observations, and research on immigration, economics, and identity, Jose Eliano reflects on how Brexit affected Timorese communities living and working in the UK through Portuguese citizenship. The talk invites audiences to consider how global decisions can shape opportunities, belonging, and the movement of people — even in places as distant as Timor-Leste.
