Bringing Them Home: The Search for American MIAs in Underwater Environments

With over 81,000 Americans missing in action (MIA) from WWII and since, some 5,000,000 of their family members still wait for answers. Dr. Dan Davis’s presentation focuses on the efforts of Project Recover, a team dedicated to searching for and recovering our MIAs in order to provide recognition and closure for families and the nation. Project Recover is focused on the search for MIAs in underwater environments, typically in crashed aircraft. The effort requires painstaking historical and archival research, the use of ocean mapping instruments, and forensic archaeological fieldwork conducted underwater. The presentation highlights projects in Denmark and in the Federated States of Micronesia.
