Luther alumnus to present a lecture in Spring 2019 Biology Colloquium series

As a part of Luther College’s Spring 2019 Biology Colloquium series, Kurayi Mahachi, Luther class of 2015, will present his lecture, “Lyme disease among hunting dogs: field research in public health,” at 9:40 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, in the Valders Hall of Science Room 206 on the Luther campus.

The lecture is open to the public with no charge for admission.

Mahachi majored in biology at Luther and is now a doctoral candidate in Epidemiology at the College of Public Health at the University of Iowa.

His lecture focuses on current knowledge about tick-borne infections, Lyme disease and other tick-borne coinfections. In his presentation, he will describe which animals are most at risk for Lyme disease and coinfections, and what this means for people who own or interact with these animals. Mahachi will also discuss the programs and opportunities in public health at the University of Iowa that students can pursue after completing their undergraduate degrees.

A national liberal arts college with an enrollment of 2,005, Luther offers an academic curriculum that leads to the Bachelor of Arts degree in more than 60 majors and pre-professional programs. For more information about Luther visit the college’s website: http://www.luther.edu.
