Luther by the Numbers
Required materials for UWC applicants:
- Common Application – including the essay/personal statement
- UWC Transcript
- Secondary School Report
- Two letters of recommendation from teachers, counselors, advisors, or coaches
- Financial Documents:
- Completed International Student Application for Financial Assistance,
- Certified bank statements, wage statements, or other documents that provide evidence of your ability to finance your studies, if applicable
Interview
Applicants are invited to an interview with Luther College admissions, as one of the final parts of the admissions process.
Optional materials
Standardized test scores (SAT, ACT, TOEFL, PTE or IELTS)
- U.S. citizens applying for need-based financial aid should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Non-U.S. citizens applying for need-based financial aid should complete the International Student Application for Financial Assistance (ISAFA).
- All applicants, regardless of whether they apply for need-based aid, are eligible to receive merit scholarships.
A student is admitted to Luther College by an official acceptance letter from Stacy Soderstrom, Director of International and Transfer Admissions. Acceptance notifications are sent via the applicant portal.
Once a student decides Luther College is the place for them please email to confirm. Once confirmed, Luther will pay the $300 enrollment deposit on behalf of the student, create the Certificate of Eligibility for Non-immigrant Student Status (also known as an I-20 form), and pay the $350 I901 SEVIS fee on their behalf.
The student may then apply for a F1 student visa at a United States embassy or consulate. It is the responsibility of each international student to become familiar with and observe all applicable United States immigration rules and regulations.
Through the partnership with the Davis Foundation, Luther College meets the full demonstrated need for all Davis UWC Scholars. Award packages include a combination of scholarships, grants, and on-campus employment.
United States citizens living abroad are eligible for all federal financial aid programs. They should file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as early as possible. International students should apply for financial aid using the ISAFA.
- Luther International Student Health Insurance Grant: Valued at $100. Awarded to international students to cover the estimated cost of health insurance premiums for one year. It is renewable through a student’s fourth year.
- Luther Transition Grant: Valued at $800. Provided for all incoming international students to help make a smooth adjustment to college life in the U.S. This is a one-time award, and is intended to help new students pay for expenses related to textbooks, school supplies, and other initial personal expenses.
- Initial Flight Grant – Luther provides an initial flight grant to selected students—based on need—to cover the cost of a 1-way ticket to the U.S. Luther pays for and books the airline ticket for the student
- Global Citizenship Grant: Valued at $2,000. Students can receive this grant sometime during the sophomore, junior, or senior year to help fund an approved internship experience, research experience, or domestic or international study away experience. Students may also apply for additional scholarship support through Luther’s endowed scholarship funds.
- Professional Development Grant: Valued at $1,000. This grant is available during the students senior year, to help prepare for their transition away from Luther; funds may be used to pay for approved costs such as the OPT fee, graduate school applications, travel to job interviews, etc.
