The number five seed of the Iowa Conference Tournament had never advanced to the tournament championship game and tonight was no exception as #1 Coe defeated #5 Luther 67-57 in Eby Fieldhouse.
In a hard fought Iowa Conference showdown, the Norse held a 25-23 halftime lead, but a four minute drought in the second half allowed the Kohawks to extend their lead en route to the victory.
Defensively, the Norse held the Kohawks to just 12 field goals, but the Kohawks made 43 trips to the charity stripe connecting on 37. On the flip side, the Norse were 15-of-22 from the charity stripe and made seven more field goals.
Dane Larson led the Norse attack with 23 points. Larson ended his career connecting on 8-of-17 attempts and was 5-of-6 from the free throw line. Tyler Wedemeier recorded a double-double with 12 point and 10 rebounds.
David Mataloni and Garrett Cross tallied 24 and 14 respectively for the Kohawks. Mataloni was 12-of-13 from the free throw line, while Cross was 14-of-16.
Even with tonight's loss, it ended the best two-year string in Norse basketball in 30 years. Last year, the Norse posted a record of 19-9. Luther finished the 2011-12 campaign with a mark of 17-9, posting back-to-back winning season for the first time since 1980-81 (13-11) and 1981-82 (23-4).
