So we're fast approaching our Philosophical Society meeting tomorrow (Thursday) at 7 pm in the Simmonds Library in the basement of Ockham. Prof. Holly Moore will facilitate our discussion and the topic she's chosen is what philosophy is "good for."
The main reading we're going to be going over is an essay by Theodor Adorno, entitled "Why Still Philosophy?" And if we have time we're going to go over some brief excerpts from Plato: Book II of the Republic on the different sorts of goods, Book VI of the Republic on the uselessness of the philosopher, and a short section of Plato's Theaetetus 172c-176a (pages 59-62 of this ebook.) So do as much reading as you're able, but the main reading will be the Adorno "Why Still Philosophy?"
