Coe and nationally ranked #8 Luther battled to a 0-0 double overtime tie this evening here in Decorah.
In a match that saw Luther out shoot Coe 17-9, the two goalkeepers played solid throughout the 110 minutes of action. Coe's Grady Brown turned away nine shots on goal, while Steve O'Meara was credited with four saves. Two of his four saves came within seconds of each other, as he stopped a Coe penalty kick and then recovered to stop a second attempt at point blank range.
With the shutout, Luther became the first school in Iowa Conference history to go the entire regular season not allowing a goal. Luther is now unbeaten in 14 matches and has an overall record of 14-2-2. Ironically, the two ties came at each end of the regular season schedule. Luther's first match against Augsburg College also ended 0-0 in double overtime.
The next portion of the season is the six-team Iowa Conference Tournament. Luther secured the #1 seed after capturing the regular season title, its seventh in school history and first since 2002, and will receive a bye in the first round. The Norse will play the winner of a first round match between the #4 and #5 seeds, one week from tonight here in Decorah. Start time will be announced.
