Luther traveled to La Crosse, Wis., for a non-conference doubleheader against UW-La Crosse and split with the Eagles 2-0, 5-7.
In game one, Miranda McCay hit a two-run double to left center that scored Anna Strien and Lindsey Uphoff in the top of the sixth. The two runs proved to be all that Norse pitcher Amanda Witzlib needed to secure the victory. Witzlib, who was named the Iowa Conference Pitcher of the Week for a second time yesterday, allowed just two hits, did not issue a walk and struck out 15 of the 24 batters she faced.
In the nightcap, the Norse battled back from a 4-1 deficit after two innings, to tie the game at 5-5, scoring two runs in the sixth. With bases loaded in the sixth and one out, Alise Miller ripped a shot up the middle that was snagged by the Eagles pitcher, who turned what looked like perhaps the game winning hit into a inning ending double play.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Eagles scored two runs with two outs that secured the 7-5 victory.
Hiliary Pennington, Carli Radil, Miller, Strien and Ashley Burrows were all credited with one RBI.
The split gives Luther an overall record of 30-2. La Crosse is now 19-7.
Luther returns to Iowa Conference action this Saturday when it will travel to Central College on Saturday. This doubleheader will begin at 2:00 p.m.
