Luther wrapped up the regular season schedule splitting with St. Mary's University (MN) 9-5, 4-5 this afternoon.
In game one, Luther scored six runs in the second and three in the fifth en route to the victory. Carli Radil, Ashley Burrows and Anna Strien all drove in two runs. Strien's came on her first career home run, a two-run shot to left field in the fifth.
Amanda Witzlib (17-2) was credited with the win. Witzlib threw five innings, allowed four runs on six hits, walked one and struck out four. Topanga Skiles pitched the final two innings and allowed one run on one hit, walked two and struck out two.
In the nightcap, Luther produced 12 hits, but left 10 runners on base. Trailing 2-0 entering the fourth, the Norse tied the game, thanks to doubles by Burrows and Strien and an RBI single by Miranda McCay. The Norse took a two-run lead scoring twice in the fifth. St. Mary's answered with two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to secure the victory.
Strien drove in two runs going 2-for-4. McCay and Radil were also 2-for-4, while Burrows went 3-for-4 and scored twice.
Witzlib was credited with the loss. Witzlib took over in the fourth and allowed three runs on five hits and struck out four. Annie Versnik got the start and allowed two runs on four hits, did not issue a walk and struck out one.
The split gives Luther an overall record of 35-3. St. Mary's ends it season with a mark of 18-20.
Luther will host the Iowa Conference Tournament this Friday and Saturday.
