In a battle between nationally ranked top-10 teams, Luther swept Coe 8-6 (8), 3-2. Coe entered today's twin bill with a 13-game win streak and was undefeated in Iowa Conference play at 6-0.

Miranda McCay hit a two-run walk-off home run in game one. The Norse held a 6-3 advantage as the Kohawks entered the top of the seventh, but three Norse errors allowed the Kohawks to tie the game at 6-6. Katie Wieland gave the Norse an early 3-0 lead in the second, thanks to a three-run home run to left field.

Becca Girvan (10-3) allowed six runs on six hits, struck out 10 and walked eight, going the distance in the circle.

Kristen Winter hit a three-run home run with two outs in the sixth that proved to be the game winner. Winter's hit was only the fourth off Coe hurler Arran Weeces.

Topanga Skiles (4-2) was credited with the win. Skiles was solid in six innings of work, allowing three runs on two hits, walking three and striking out three. Skiles also recorded a three-pitch fourth inning and retired the last 10 batters she faced. Becca Girvan was credited with the save, striking out two of the three batters she faced in the seventh.

Box Score

"Every Iowa Conference game is so big," stated Head Coach Renae Hartl. "And with the re-schedule of just one doubleheader, we just experienced eight (60% of our league game) tough IIAC games in a week. What do we take from that? We are tougher as a group. We know what we need to do and how we need to do it, and we are going to move forward with a better plan and focus to execute on defense and on the mound.

Getting three huge home runs from Katie, Miranda, and Kristen, plus two big double plays on defense, definitely made the day exciting. The most important thing we are going to take away from today's sweep, is our overall defensive play in game two and build on that for tomorrow. With Hiliary out of the line up for the near future, we will look to everyone to pick up a little of what we are missing without her. We hope to have her back soon. The goal is to be 24 healthy and strong by the end of the month."

The sweep gives Luther an Iowa Conference record of 4-4, 19-6 overall. Coe fell to 6-2 in league play, 26-5 overall.

The Norse travel to St. Olaf tomorrow afternoon for a non-conference double header that begins at 1:00 p.m.
