Fox 28 KFXA will air Luther College's "Christmas at Luther 2020: For Everyone Born" at 6-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 24, for viewers in eastern Iowa.
"Luther has a wonderful history of delivering one of the finest Christmas choral concerts in the United States," said Glen Callanan, vice-president and general manager of Fox 28. "Fox 28 is honored to bring this joyous holiday event to people all across Eastern Iowa in what has been a difficult year for our viewers. We want to thank Luther College for being our partners in the wonderful Christmas program."
The Luther community and music ensembles have joined together to spread the joy of Christmas. Video and audio recordings of the college's five choirs, Luther Ringers, and Symphony Orchestra, took place Oct. 8-10 and Oct. 23-25 through a collaboration with Blue Sky Productions of Marion, Iowa. The new format of Christmas at Luther 2020 includes memorable moments such as a reimagining of the candle lighting tradition, featuring current faculty, staff and students.
"The theme of Christmas at Luther this year hearkens to Christ's birth story and how on the night he was born, his family was told there was no room for them at the inn," said Andrew Last, director of choral activities and artistic director of Christmas at Luther. "'For Everyone Born' is taken from a hymn of the same name that reminds us that there is a place at the table for each and every one of us."
Luther is home to one of the largest collegiate music programs in the nation, with five choirs, three orchestras, three bands, two jazz bands and more than 800 student musicians. Luther students participate in large ensembles, faculty-coached chamber groups, private lessons and master classes. Nearly 275 music majors study music theory, ear training, history, education, composition, jazz, church music and performance.
