SAC Entertainment brings improv show to Luther College
Enjoy a night of improv comedy as the Luther College Student Activities Council presents ComedySportz at 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, in the Center for Faith and Life Main Hall on the Luther campus.
The event is open to the public with no charge for admission.
Since 1984, the ComedySportz troupe has entertained crowds of all ages with its fast-paced improvisational show that's played as a sport. A ComedySportz match features two teams of comedy "actletes" competing for laughs and points. A referee controls the match by keeping the game moving and calling fouls. An average of 7-12 games are played during a match, drawn from a pool of more than 100 improv games.
For example, in "Shakespeare" the actletes use an audience suggestion to improvise a scene in Shakespearian style. In "Forward/Reverse" actletes are kept on their toes as the referee sends the scene back and forth at his or her own discretion.
Every show is unique, with different players and games and the audience supplying new suggestions. Fans judge the scenes and games to decide the winners and losers. ComedySportz also asks volunteers from the audience to join them on stage.
The show is sponsored by Student Activities Council-Entertainment.
