Luther College Giving Day March 9

Giving Day, a 15-hour fundraising event to support the Annual Fund at Luther College, will be held Thursday, March 9.

The day features a simultaneous 12-hour live feed bringing entertainment, engaging stories and information from students, faculty and staff across campus to Luther family and friends across the globe. The community is invited to make a gift, view the live feed and get real-time updates on Giving Day at https://luther.edu/giving-day.

Giving Day is a chance for the Luther family all over the country (and the world) to connect with one another through the power of social media and to encourage each other to support the Annual Fund. Our donors can be a part of the excitement by keeping up on social media, watching the livestream throughout the day, and sharing posts. They really have a chance to be a part of everything happening on campus and the opportunity to make a huge difference in the total raised for the Annual Fund," said Maria Smith, Luther director of annual giving.

Giving Day features various challenges throughout the day encouraging a diverse group of alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends of the college to give generously. Challenges include the "Go Big and Go Gnome Super Awesome Regents Challenge," the "Warmly Weston Challenge" and "The Whippy Dip Challenge." Different challenges are posted throughout the day on Luther's Facebook page, https://facebook.com/luthercollege; Twitter feed, https://twitter.com/luthercollege; and Instagram feed, https://instagram.com/luthercollege. Observers can also view posts on, https://tagboard.com/luthergives17, and can participate in challenges and events throughout the day using #luthergives17 on social media.

"Last year we hosted our very first Giving Day to encourage support for the Annual Fund and I have to say, I was completely overwhelmed and awed by the generous response from our alumni, families and friends. We gave them a different way to love Luther College and they did! I can't wait to do it again!" said Smith.

Gifts given through Giving Day support the college's Annual Fund, where the money is put to work right away. Last year, more than 10,000 alumni, family and friends supported the Annual Fund with gifts ranging from $5 to $100,000. This unrestricted giving provides scholarships, world-class teaching and supports the whole Luther experience.

"Giving Day really showcases the best thing about Luther College, our community. I have been humbled by the number of people who are eager and excited to be involved and am looking forward to spend the day celebrating Luther with our family worldwide!" said Megan Torkelson, assistant director of annual giving.

Continued support and growth of the Luther College Annual Fund are critical for the college's success. The $2.1+ million annual goal for unrestricted gifts has an immediate impact on the Luther community – supporting students, teaching and learning opportunities, and student life on campus. A national liberal arts college with an enrollment of 2,150, Luther offers an academic curriculum that leads to the bachelor of arts degree in more than 60 majors and pre-professional programs.
