A new LinkedIn group provides a space where current Luther students can intentionally network with alumni to learn more about various career fields and paths. Current students, alumni, parents, and friends are encouraged to join and use this online forum—Luther College Career Network—to ask career- and industry-related questions and share personal experience and insight.
Alumni are asked to:
· Provide useful information about industry trends, employers and relocation
· Assist students in developing their own network of professionals who can help identify internship and job opportunities
· Help students create a strategy for securing an internship or full-time job
By joining this special group, alumni and friends of the college agree to allow student members of the group to contact them for advice. Seeing how Luther College alumni arrived at their own careers is often a key aid to Luther students who are exploring a career field, seeking an internship, or looking for employment in their field of study. It is information they cannot always find elsewhere. Alumni can also be helpful by sharing networking tips and knowledge about their fields.
By participating in Luther's Career Network group and keeping their online profiles updated, alumni maintain and even improve the reputation of Luther College. Through LinkedIn, the digital world sees the quality of Luther alumni and thus the quality of the college itself.
LinkedIn's Luther College Career Network can be a valuable resource to alumni as well as students. Alumni, too, can use the Career Network group to find other graduates and friends of the college who live in their region, work in companies or fields of interest, may be looking to transition, and/or who could help with transitions.
To join, create a profile on LinkedIn if you don't already have one, search for Luther College Career Network and click "join." You can also find the group listed as a subgroup of the larger Luther College Alumni, Parents and Friends LinkedIn group. Anyone who is a member of the alumni, parents and friends group or its subgroups will be automatically admitted when they click on "join." The group administrator will admit others.
