Luther College invites the Decorah community to escape the winter cold for a morning of family fun and learning at the Mission Guatemala Winter Carnival fundraiser from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 25 in Luther's Regents Center.
The event, for children in preschool through elementary school, boasts inflatable rides, bounce houses, face painting, carnival games and prizes. Tickets are 2 for $1 or 11 for $5. Carnival food such as hot dogs, cotton candy and popcorn will be available for purchase.
Throughout the day, there will be opportunities to learn fun facts about Guatemala from the 19 Luther students hosting the event to benefit Mission Guatemala.
The students are partnering with Open Windows, a community after-school program in San Miguel Dueñas in rural Guatemala. The students will travel to San Miguel Dueñas in late March to deliver the check and assist with the program for a week.
Additional donations are welcome. For more information or to donate, contact Meredith Gantner firstname.lastname@example.org or call Luther College Ministries, (563) 387-1271. The 2014 Mission Guatemala trip is sponsored by Luther's Office for College Ministries.
