Diane Meredith Belcher to perform Annual Benefactor Organ Recital Sept. 16 at Luther College

Internationally renowned organist Diane Meredith Belcher will perform the annual benefactor organ recital at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, in the Center for Faith and Life on the Luther College campus. The concert is open to the public with no charge for admission.

The program includes Toccata and Fugue in D minor, BWV 565, Allein Gott in der Höh sei Ehr, BWV 662 and Fantasy and Fugue in G minor, BWV 542 by J.S. Bach.  The performance will also include works by Johann Gottfried Walther, Lee Hoiby and Charles Marie Widor.

Belcher graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music and the Eastman School of Music.  She has performed throughout the United States, in Europe and in Canada.  Concert appearances have included Disney Hall, Los Angeles; Benaroya Hall, Seattle; Saint Thomas University, New York City; and the 100th anniversary concert of the Wanamaker Grand Court Organ, Philadelphia.

She has several recordings to her credit, including a JAV release that won the Absolute Sound’s Golden Ear Award for the year 2000.  Also a composer, Belcher has written a small body of organ and choral music.

American Record Guide calls her performances “glowingly brilliant, rhythmically vibrant, consistently expressive, and full of both atmosphere and personality – in short, everything that artistic organ playing should be.”
