Emily Voss, a Luther College sophomore from Wausau, Wis., has been selected a finalist in the 31st annual College Photography Contest sponsored by Photographer's Forum Magazine and Nikon.
Voss, an art major at Luther, is the daughter of Mark and Paula Voss of Wausau. She is a 2009 graduate of Wausau West High School.
Voss's photo, "Ice Blue: Eyes of the Winter Goddess," was one of the finalists selected from some 14,000 images submitted to the College Photography Contest by students around the world.
As a finalist, Voss will advance to compete for the top prizes in the contest. Winners will be announced by August 2011.
First place award will be $2,000 cash and a Nikon D90 camera and lens system. Second place be$1,000 cash grant and Nikon D90 camera and lens system.
Third place is a $500 cash grant. Five fourth-place winners each receive a $100 grant.
Winning photographs will be published in the November 2011 issue of Photographer’s Forum Magazine and exhibited at Brooks Institute Gallery 27.
One hundred honorable mention winners will be listed in an issue of Photographer’s Forum magazine and will receive a certificate of outstanding merit.
The contest was open, with no categories. Contest finalists photos were the top eight percent of the images submitted to the contest. Those photographs will be published in a hardcover book this summer: "Best of Photography 2011."
Voss is a member of Luther College Photo Bureau, the eight-student organization that produces the photographs for the college's marketing and communications division. Many of her photographs can be seen on the college's website and in its publications.
Voss is the owner of E.V. Designs, based in Wausau, a photography studio she established in 2009 and an entrepreneurial business venture that won her the Luther College 2008 Erdman Award, a competitive monetary award that honors Luther students who create, develop, and manage a successful entrepreneurial enterprise.
