Virginia Gibbs and Luz Maria Hernandez to present 'Shattered Dreams' at Luther

A new book by two former Luther College faculty members details the story of the April 2008 immigration raid of a meat packing plant in Postville, Iowa, from the viewpoint of the undocumented workers. Authors Virginia Gibbs and Luz Maria Hernandez will read from their book, "Shattered Dreams: The Story of a Historic ICE Raid in the Words of the Detainees," at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, in the F.W. Olin Building, Room 102, on the Luther College campus. A reception will follow.

SPIN Theatre presents the One Act Play Festival

SPIN Theatre Company, the student theatre organization of Luther College, presents the One Act Play festival at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, and at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Storre Theatre on the Luther campus. The festival will feature four student-directed scenes from plays by David Ives, Samuel Beckett, Anton Chekhov and Susan Glaspell.

The Big Tiny

'The Big Tiny' author Dee Williams in Decorah Sept. 30

Dee Williams, Portland-based author of the popular memoir and DIY tiny house book, "The Big Tiny," will give a talk on the Luther College campus at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, in Valders Hall of Science room 206. Sponsored by the Friends of Decorah Public Library in partnership with the Luther College Center for Sustainable Communities, Williams’ talk is open to the public with no charge for admission.

Luther College Book Shop to host book signings, storybook readings

The Luther College Book Shop is hosting the fifth annual storybook reading session from 11 a.m.-noon Saturday, Sept. 20, in the lobby of Dahl Centennial Union. The event will feature Luther education department students dressed as their favorite storybook characters as they read selections from various children's books.

Luther College presents Family Weekend concert Sept. 20

Luther College's music department will present an evening of choral and instrumental music at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, as part of Family Weekend activities. Seven ensembles will perform, including Aurora, Cantorei, Cathedral Choir, Collegiate Chorale, Norsemen, Wind and Percussion Ensemble and Varsity Band.
