This session will allow students to learn how to craft interdisciplinary work that effectively weaves together historical analysis and contemporary issues. Professor Wasserstrom, a historian of modern China, will share his expertise, drawing from his recent publications such as The Milk Tea Alliance: Inside Asia’s Struggle Against Autocracy and Beijing (2025), Vigil: Hong Kong on the Brink (2020), and Eight Juxtapositions: China Through Imperfect Analogies from Mark Twain to Manchukuo (2016). The session aims to highlight how historical underlying issues can illuminate contemporary problems, making it relevant for students in all majors who seek to understand modern challenges through a historical lens.
