Silent Film with Guest Organist, Matthew Gender

Guest organist Dr. Matthew Gender returns to Luther College to accompany a showing of the 1927 silent film The Cat and the Canary, starring Laura La Plante. The score for the classic film will be improvised on the Center for Faith and Life’s 49-stop Sipe pipe organ. Dr. Gender is the Director of Worship Arts at Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester, Minnesota and has received prizes in the National Competition for Organ Improvisation (2016) and the University of Michigan Organ Improvisation Competition (2017).

The program is free to the public, and costumes are welcomed and encouraged!
