Rick Steves: “Travel with a Norwegian Sensibility”

Luther College is thrilled to host Rick Steves for a special talk entitled “Travel with a Norwegian Sensibility.”   

Doors Open at 1:45 p.m. 

The Center for Faith and Life (CFL) Main Hall will open for seating beginning at 1:45 p.m. on Sunday, April 27.  Please note, the CFL does not have an elevator to the balcony.  If you have seats located in the balcony and need assistance with stairs, please contact the Luther College Ticket Office (563-387-1357 or  tickets@luther.edu) to discuss alternative seating options.

Following Rick’s talk, he will sign books in the lobby of the CFL. Autographs are not personalized, and while Rick welcomes people to take photos during the signing, he doesn’t pose for individual shots. 

Parking

If you have attended Christmas at Luther in the past, we will use the same parking plans. Areas directly adjacent to the CFL will be entirely reserved for accessible parking. Allow yourself plenty of time to park and walk to the venue.  Primary parking locations are the Jenson-Noble lot and Preus Library lot and are designated on this map. When entering an address in your GPS, use 585 Library Street, Decorah, IA 52101 to be navigated to parking lots.  

Come to Decorah early for any of the below activities both on campus and in the community. 

Community Worship: Let All the World in Every Corner Sing – 10:00 a.m.

The Office for College Ministries invites the Luther campus and extended community to this service of songs, readings, and prayers. Worship with us as we celebrate God’s love for all nations and all people. Join us at 10:00 a.m. in the CFL Main Hall. For more information or to volunteer in worship, email ministry@luther.edu.

All You Can Eat Brunch in the Caf, 10:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. 

Join us for brunch featuring Norwegian-inspired breakfast favorites like scrambled eggs with smoked salmon and fresh dill, french toast bake with lingonberry compote, eggs benedict quiche, and rømmegrøt bars, along with a full complement of lunch fare, salad bar, and allergy-friendly options.  Tickets are $12.50 per person and must be purchased by April 22.  Reserve your desired dining time at tickets.luther.edu 

Luther College Book Shop Open 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Be sure to visit the Book Shop inside Dahl Centennial Union! Browse our unique selection of Scandinavian goods—books, gifts, and home décor, as well as Luther College branded merchandise and Decorah souvenirs.  The Book Shop is institutionally owned, and every dollar stays on campus to directly support students and our Luther community.

Free Admission at Vesterheim Museum from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. 

On Sunday, April 27th, enjoy FREE admission to Vesterheim, the National Norwegian-American Museum and Folk Art School, in downtown Decorah. Explore Heritage Park, Hanson Vesterheim Commons, and Vesterheim’s Museum Building, showcasing 200 Years of Norwegians in America, a special exhibit commemorating the bicentennial anniversary of the first organized immigration of Norwegians to the United States. 

Both the Museum Building and Museum Store are open for extended hours that day, from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Visit vesterheim.org for more information.
