Michelle Boike, assistant dean and director of the Center for Intercultural Engagement and Support, will present the lecture, “Belonging Across Borders: Understanding Transracial and Transnationally Adopted College Students.” In American higher education, students are understood through their identities and experiences. Transracial and transnationally adopted college students are an understudied population, often due to a lack of exposure or understanding of their specific identities. Understanding who adoptees are and how they navigate both their birth culture and American culture can have an impact on their sense of belonging and retention in college while providing a lens for Student Affairs professionals to support their intersectional identities and experiences.
